Dear CIC community,
As we know, the role of TAs is essential in creating and fostering an inclusive learning environment. As such, the CIC
is thrilled to be partnering with Felix
Muzny to offer two “train the TA trainer” sessions. Felix is a Northeastern University Clinical Instructor, Director of Teaching Assistants,
and a computing PhD Student writing their thesis on creating, developing, and evaluating TA programs with a focus on broadening participation in computing.
What will the training cover?
In the session (note – the sessions are identical so register for just one) Felix will focus on everything needed to create
an excellent and inclusive TA training - from specific curriculum to use in TA trainings to methods and techniques for facilitating conversations about interpersonal communication, grounded in pedagogical practice more often found in humanities-focused classrooms
than in computing. For
those of you attending SIGCSE, you’ll see Felix present the paper he has written on this topic on March 16th!
Who should attend?
The short answer is that all are welcome! That said, the primary audience anyone directly involved in organizing, shaping,
and running TA training agendas at your institutions. In Felix’s experience, the training can also be very useful to academic coordinators, course coordinators and others in similar roles. But, we emphasize again, all are welcome and we invite you to pass
along this invitation to any team members who might find this beneficial. There is no limit on how many people can attend from a single institution.
When is it?
