Student News:

  *   Programming Club @ GSU is hosting Competitive Programming (see flyer<https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/track?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:aa1c509b-8b8a-4c27-a055-f31089e966bc>) on Friday 11/12 @ 2 - 4 PM: You'll enter the competition as a team of 3 (if you don't have a team, you can form one in the Discord #competitive-programming channel). The team with the most problems solved in the allotted time wins! All levels of programmers are welcome to attend! This is an excellent way to learn and practice problem-solving while meeting other like-minded people interested in improving their coding skills. These skills are also beneficial for technical interviews. We will be meeting in the #competitive-programming voice channel on Discord.

  *   Girls Who Code and Programming Club are coming together to host a collaborative CS Jeopardy Social Event (see flyer<https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/track?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:efde04a0-ec2c-4bb6-8508-95c7cc72f161>)! Join us on Thursday 11/19 @ 4 - 6 PM in person for a fun social event where we will be playing the game of Jeopardy! Bring your friends and personal laptops to participate. You will be placed in groups where you will compete to win. There will be free food, so feel free to stop by and meet our Programming Club Members.   *   Girls Who Code at GSU will be holding a Day in the Life Seminar on Friday, November 12 (see flyer<https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/track?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:baee97c2-3f4d-4edf-90ba-e431bba71198>). The event will feature Neera Mathur, a Chief Architect, Senior Technical Staff member & Manager of Data Privacy Engineering at IBM!

     *   The event's topics will include discussions about the day-to-day life of an IBM employee, topics surrounding data privacy, and being a woman in tech!

     *   Attendees will also receive insight on how to develop a technical career.

     *   The meeting will be held in the CS Meeting Room at 25 Park Place in room 755 from 10:00am - 12:00pm EST

  *   BlockchainGSU is showing “Ready Player One” for a Metaverse Movie Night on Thursday, November 11th at 6pm in Room 211 of the Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII)

Job Announcements/Career Opportunities:

  *   Twitter is hosting a virtual recruitment event on November 17th. During the event you’ll hear from Twitter alums, learn about their culture, and how they make an impact every single day. They’ll also be discussing open opportunities and how to be best prepared to interview and land a job with Twitter!

  *   Facebook is in search of class of 2024 and 2025 undergraduate students interested in a career in Computer Science for our Facebook University Engineering program. Facebook University Engineering is a paid training program designed to provide technical experience to students who are historically under-represented in computer science. We are hosting Application Prep Workshops throughout the Fall to ensure candidates feel the most confident when they apply! We'll be discussing the application process, resume best practices, and tips for completing our technical assessment.

  *   TechTogether's Atlanta Chapter is hosting a virtual hackathon from January 28-30th, 2022 for people of marginalized genders of all ages (See flyer<https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/track?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:3d5e331d-cc14-4e11-9084-e58b59e0d3fa>). This is an amazing opportunity for students to network with companies like Microsoft and Capital One, explore different career paths in tech, and learn new coding skills.   *   The Harvard-Amgen Scholars Program <https://uraf.harvard.edu/amgen-scholars> Summer 2022 application is now open, a ten-week faculty mentored residential summer research program for undergraduates in biotechnology. Through this program, a diverse cohort of undergraduates will have the opportunity to work in laboratories of faculty across the Harvard campus. In addition to research, the Scholars will participate in a number of intellectual, pre-professional development, and social activities throughout the program.

     *   Eligibility: current sophomores, juniors and non-graduating seniors who are U.S. Citizens, U.S. permanent residents, Students who’ve received DACA and who are authorized to work. Students with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 out of 4.0 scale, with serious interest in biotechnology and biomedical research. Prior research experience is not required.
