Hi grad students,

See below. Those of you who took Seminar with me last year will remember Parrenas's book, and those of you who are in Seminar now will be reading it soon!

If you have an interest in applying for the workshop below, let me know. There is probably a charge involved with registering for the conference, but I may be able to help out with that if you are accepted.

Best, j.p.

Subject: [feminist-anthropology] AFA Graduate Mentorship Workshop: "Envisioning Feminist Futures" with Juno Salazar Parreñas (Nov 19)

Hi all,

We hope our graduate student members will consider applying to this upcoming (virtual) mentorship workshop hosted by Juno Salazar Parreñas, whose book Decolonizing Extinction: The Work of Care in Orangutan Rehabilitation, won the AFA's 2019 Michelle Rosaldo Prize. Drawing on Dr. Parreñas' pathbreaking work in feminist and queer studies, decolonization, and science and technology studies, the theme of this workshop is "Envisioning Feminist Futures." This is the first in what we hope will be an annual series of intimate mentorship events for student members, so please feel welcome to send questions and suggestions our way!

Envisioning Feminist Futures
Friday, November 19, 12:15-2:00pm (EST) - online via Zoom

What feminist futures can we aspire towards during an ongoing pandemic, profound losses, and forecasted uncertainties of climate breakdown? As feminist anthropologists, what do we owe our subjects, our peers, and ourselves? In this workshop, we will collaboratively brainstorm collective aspirations for the future of feminist work.

Students interested in engaging with these questions in a small group virtual setting should submit a short (less than 1p) précis to Alix Johnson ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) by November 5. Your précis should briefly introduce your research and speak to how you are grappling with feminist futures - whether in your research design, ethnographic practice, writing process, and/or professional goals. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by November 10.

Take care,
