Banda is looking to hire 2 masters students as graduate research assistants for the Fall 2020
semester , with possible renewal for Spring 2021 depending on performance. Our project
involves collecting Twitter data during present and past natural disasters to observe mobility
patterns. Students will be directly working in setting up collection pipelines, pre-processing the
data, and generating some insights from said data.
What skills will you learn: Curation of large data repositories (TB's in size), familiarization with
Twitter data, hands-on data science experience with real-world questions, research exposure.
Requirements / Expectations:
- Python language experience (version 3 or higher)
- Some basic data management skills
- Linux/terminal knowledge
- Write weekly reports
- Meet (virtually or in person) once a week with supervisor
- Responsiveness via digital platforms (e-mail/slack/etc.)
Stipend: $ 3,060 pre-tax for the fall semester (August to end of December)
