Assalamu Alaikum Georgia State MSA-ers,
As we approach the new semester we want to take some time out to thank Allah (swt) for all the blessings he has bestowed upon us. Before the new Spring 2013 semester begins, we want to inform everyone about all of our upcoming events, news, and changes regarding the MSA at GSU! We wish you a happy and successful semester and ask Allah (swt) to help us all become the best that we possibly can be.
I) A Letter from the President
Hope you all enjoyed your break from school and were able to spend time catching up with friends and family, insha’Allah!
I want to take a moment to thank you all for your support of the MSA. The board has numerous exciting events planned for the upcoming semester and we hope to see each and every one of you there!
Before the semester begins, I want to welcome our new MSA Executive Board Members as follows, effective immediately:

While I am sad to leave the MSA board, I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment spent serving the GSU MSA since 2010, I trust that the new and bright board members will continue to further improve the MSA. May Allah bless their efforts and intentions, and may this year be the best we’ve seen, insha’Allah!
Any faults from the MSA are from the Board and I, and any good you have gained is from Allah. Please keep your fellow GSU MSA Members and the rest of the Muslim Ummah in your duas. III) Prayer Room Code Change
The room code for the Muslim Students Association Prayer Room, located on the 4th floor of the University Center in room 409, changed on January 7th, 2013. To see the new room code, please register with the MSA on OrgSync.com or through our website, gsumsa.com. The prayer room code will be located on the home page.
IV) Housing Listings
Visit: http://www.yamadina.com for housing listing and halal food restaurants in the Atlanta area. Users can also create listings for housing and roommate needs. There are currently limited postings for housing around GSU, but we encourage you to start posting housing listings and roommate listings so that these needs could be met more professionally.
To make a new post, click on the "New post" button on the top left corner on the search results page (this button is not present on the home page, only on the search results page), choose city from a drop down menu and fill out the form. Once completed, click submit to complete the posting.
V) Dawah Table/Halaqah Timings
For the upcoming Spring semester, dawah table timings will be from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013. The dawah table can be found in front of the library at the courtyard plaza. If you wish to volunteer for dawah table, contact us at [log in to unmask].
Halaqah will begin on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 this semester. Halaqah will take place three times a week, starting on Mondays with a mixed Halaqah from 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM, followed by a brothers’ Halaqah on Tuesdays from 12:15 PM - 1 PM, and a sisters’ Halaqah on Thursdays from 12:15 PM - 1 PM. All Halaqahs will take place in the University Center on the 4th floor in room 402, located just around the corner from the MSA Prayer Room.
VI) Fast-a-thon 2013
This semester will feature our annual Fast-a-Thon on February 21st, 2013! Fast-a-Thon is where Muslims fast and encourage their non-Muslims friends to fast in order to see what it’s like to hold a fast during Ramadan. The event will be held in the Georgia State University Student Center in the Court and House salon from 6 PM to 9 PM. Please encourage your Muslim and non-Muslim friends to join us for a very special night. We will have a surprise guest speaker who will be arriving from out of state. Dinner will be served. VII) Entertainment Night
Introducing the Muslim Students Association’s first ever Entertainment Night! For the first time, come to our special event where we’ll be featuring local talent along with some of the biggest names in show business! The event will be taking place on Thursday, March 14th, 2013 from 6 PM until 9 PM! This will be a great night to stop by and enjoy some time with your fellow Muslim Brothers and Sisters in Islam! We are still looking for local talent artists who are willing to showcase their material to everyone, with the chance to score some new fans! The Muslim Urban Professionals (Muppies) Atlanta chapter is collaborating with the Atlanta Muslim Young Professionals and GT Muslim Alumni Connection to host a workshop for college students interested in careers in business, “Preparing for the Real World: 2013 Employment Toolkit”. The session will help students to strategize and execute a targeted internship and/or full-time job search. 4) Messages to Syria from Atlanta (An MWB/Elevate Culture Event)
Join us on the evening of January 18 as we unleash our creativity and our solidarity for the children of Syria! We will be creating messages, writing letters, and attaching photos that will be sent directly to refugee camps. The children will record their messages back to us for later viewing.
Here's your chance to share some hope with the children and let them know of the care and love you have for them and their cause. Many of these children are asking, "Where is the World?" Here is your chance to send them your answer!
