As-Salaamu Alaikum MSA Activists and Students!
It is with great pleasure that MSA National announces the continuation of its scholarship program for activists and students: The M. Naziruddin Ali Award for Excellence.

The M. Naziruddin Ali Award for Excellence provides national recognition and financial support for students who exhibit outstanding academic strength as well as exceptional service to Muslims and the American and Canadian community at large.

A pioneer of Islamic activism in the United States, M. Naziruddin Ali's exemplary dedication to the Muslim American community is illustrated by his life long association with MSA National, Islamic Society of North America, and North American Islamic Trust, for which he served as General Manager for twenty years. Beginning as local chapter president and Chicago community activist, he served as president of MSA National for two terms and was integral in facilitating the establishment of the Islamic Society of North America during this period.  His tireless service, sincerity, and unwavering commitment proved to be crucial in the birth and development of each of these organizations.

Apply now! Deadline for submitting all application materials is June 17, 2010.  See website for additional information and application forms:

There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger.

We testify to this multiple times daily. But how well do we understand it? How would our lives change if we really internalized the meaning of these two testimonies?

Living Faith: Understanding, Living, & Realizing the Testifications of Faith will help us answer these questions. We will see that our lives as Muslims are encompassed in these few words. Moreover, we will learn how to allow this testimony to move beyond our lips, limbs, and mind to the heart; we will learn what it means to love Allah and His Messenger, to love what He loves, and to truly live our faith in our modern times.

We invite you to come attend this retreat of spiritual and physical healing in a place where skyscrapers are replaced with mountains, billboards with trees, smog with post-dawn mist, and trivial chatter with the remembrance of God.

THE SITE
Living Faith will be held at Coker Creek Village Adventure and Retreat Center, located 1.5 hours from Knoxville, TN. This 300-acre park is nestled high in the southern Appalachian Mountains on the famed Ocoee River. Students will be surrounded by the creation of Allah and enveloped in some of the nation’s most pristine national forests. Also available on the site are various recreational opportunities, such as:

  • Youth White Water Rafting
  • Nightly Bonfires with Nasheeds
  • Horseback Riding
  • Mountain Biking
  • Extensive Hiking
  • Gold Panning
  • Climbing Tower with Zip Line
  • Team-Building Activities - Sports: Swimming, Volleyball, Basketball
    (see
    www.cokercreekvillage.com)

ACCOMMODATIONS
Students will be housed in bunkhouse log cabins, with brothers and sisters accommodated in separate sections of the site. The site is supervised by trained personnel. Food will be cooked onsite by the camp personnel and all the meat served will be zabihah/halal. Classes will be held in the Village's new Retreat Center and “the Barn.”

CURRICULUM
Courses will focus on the following subjects:

  • Understanding the meaning of the Testifications of Faith
  • Living the implications of the Testifications in your life
  • Spiritual realization and attainment of love through the Testifications
  • Open forums with panel of scholars

Note: a broader variety of courses will be specified in the orientation package after registration.

PARALLEL YOUTH SESSION
A parallel program for youth between the ages of 14 to 18 will be held at the site. Classes will be taught by Ustadh Usama Canon as well as the retreat’s other scholars. Some programs and activities, such as the group prayers, recitations, and meals will be combined for the youth and adults. The daily schedule will be less rigorous and will include more recreational time. Youth leaders will be assigned to guide the youth at all times and ensure that Islamic etiquette is maintained.
