The Public Professor: How to Use Your Research to Change the World
M. V. Lee Badgett, Professor of Economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, will be giving a presentation based on her book, The Public Professor: How to Use Your Research to Change the World.<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3a%2f%2fnyupress.org%2fbooks%2f9781479861392%2f&data=01%7c01%7cglewis%40gsu.edu%7cc717bcde3fe841b9367508d337cc5a2d%7c515ad73d8d5e4169895c9789dc742a70%7c0&sdata=0py4MoDq9fYgx6NHnVUCHcsx0GNV3wMZ6v8I9nUo9VE%3d> She will show how academics can make their work influential on a public level, but the path to becoming a public intellectual, influential policy advisor, valued community resource or go-to person on an issue is not one that most scholars are trained for. Badgett will suggest ways scholars can use their ideas, research and knowledge to change the world. She will discuss practical strategies to become more engaged with the public online, in print, at council hearings, even with national legislation.
