Software engineer position at Emory University (Atlanta,
Georgia, USA)

The Emory University Center for Comprehensive Informatics
(http://cci.emory.edu <http://cci.emory.edu/>) is seeking an
innovative software engineer to design, implement, and
productize an extreme large data base for analytical medical
imaging -- an innovative high performance medical imaging
GIS system for biomedical research and healthcare. We focus
on next-generation open source software systems that enable
scientists, engineers, clinicians and healthcare
administrators to synthesize and explore information from
heterogeneous, distributed, and large biomedical datasets in
novel ways for discovery and decision-making.

The development of the system is driven by the requirements
of leading edge scientific projects, the needs of Emory
Healthcare, and Federal Government's efforts in health
information management. This position offers tremendous
growth and career opportunity for someone who enjoys taking
on challenging technical problems and applying intellect and
software development skills in a fast paced environment.
Your work will become widely known through adoption of our
system, collaborative participation in large scale projects
and community-driven open source software efforts, and
through publications and presentations. We collaborate with
external research groups in the development of the system
and high-end computing projects and are positioned to draw
upon the first rate technical and scientific resources
available at Emory and Georgia Tech. More senior candidates
will be expected to have excellent technical leadership and
interpersonal communication skills including the ability to
translate and communicate technical issues to a
non-technical audience.

*Requirements:*

You should have a master's degree or equivalent in Computer
Science, Software Engineering or a related field. You must
have expert programming skills in *object oriented-design
*and *Java*. Experience on designing and implementing
*efficient database systems* is strongly desired. Experience
with software engineering practices such as requirements
gathering, version control, testing practices, and
configuration management is preferred. Other desirable
skills include *XML* technologies, C/C++, *MapReduce*, web
service and Web application development, and technical writing.
