Invitation for a Free, NSF-sponsored research workshop - An excellent opportunity to get to know your neighboring schools' research!

Many faculty members in our neighboring schools (in Alabama, George, Mississippi, and other states) wish to have a local workshop to exchange their research ideas. Here is an excellent opportunity: with the support of NSF CISE program, a one-day research workshop will be held at the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa. We plan to invite researchers from nearby schools (such as Auburn, George Tech, Mississippi State , UAB, UAH, etc.) to get together to present their results and exchange ideas.

This workshop costs you almost $0 ! Just drive to UA campus and get to know people. There is NO registration fee needed. Free lunch, coffee, and beverages will be provided. Travel and accommodation will be covered for long distance attendees who will fly here. For some local people who may need 1-night lodging (before the workshop day), we have reserved some rooms (from NSF budget).

The attached is the Call For Abstracts for this workshop. A 2-page abstract can be submitted via the following website:https://sites.google.com/site/cscn2012workshop/

The workshop theme is: Cognitive Sensing, Computing& Networking (CSCN) and Their Applications in Human-Cyber-physical Systems. We welcome any research results about the following topics:

- Cognitive sensing: This includes smart sensors, compressive sensing, situational sampling, and others cognitive sensing / actuating systems;

- Cognitive computing: This includes machine learning, artificial intelligence, bio-inspired computing, and other cognition-oriented computing schemes;

- Cognitive networking: This includes cognitive radios, intelligent networks, and other smart networking schemes;

- CSCN applications to human-cyber-physical systems (HCPS) : The most important feature of HCPS is the close interactions between human subjects, cyber resources (such as computing algorithms, control models, sensing mechanisms, etc.), and physical resources (such as facilities, hardware, analog devices, etc.). We welcome all kinds of CSCN applications to enhance the HCPS design in multiple fields such as biometrics, biomedical platforms, civil infrastructure, power systems, etc.

In this workshop, we can accommodate around 15~20 speakers' oral presentations, as well as around 30~40 poster sessions. We will also have a keynote speaker who was a NSF program director (in IIS program).
