Dear Colleagues and CS Students,
The Honors and Awards Committee invites nominations and applications
for the following awards by Friday, Feb 27. Note that there is a new
"Outstanding Graduate Student Award."
1. Outstanding Teaching by a Graduate Student Award: Awarded to
graduate students who have performed outstanding teaching.
Students should submit their teaching portfolios for course taught in
2008 to Professor Weeks. Please see
2. Outstanding Graduate Research Award: Awarded to graduate students
who have performed outstanding research.
Faculty advisers should nominate their students to me and for each
student (i) nominate her/his best published/accepted paper in a
conference or a journal during 2008-09 (choose one, if several), (ii)
certify that student's contribution has been significant on the paper,
if co-authored, and (ii) give an indication of the standing/ranking of
the publication outlet for the sub-area (such as among top two
international conferences in bioinformatics). Each nominee should
email me (i) a copy of his/her nominated paper, (ii) the review
reports of that paper along with the numerical scores by attaching the
verbatim email received from the program committee or editor, (iii)
the acceptance rate for the publication outlet, obtainable from
program chair/editor, in the format "50 out of 350 submissions."
3. Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award: Awarded to undergraduate
students who have performed outstanding research.
Faculty advisers should nominate their students to me briefly
describing the nature and significance of the research work, and ask
each nominee to email any additional material (poster, paper,
4. Outstanding Senior Award: Awarded to an outstanding graduating senior.
Faculty members should nominate candidates to Professor King.
5. Outstanding Graduate Student Award: Awarded to a senior graduate
student with an outstanding record of accomplishments.
Faculty advisers should nominate their students to me by submitting a
letter of recommendation and her/his curriculum vitae.
