Subject: PLEASE ANNOUNCE TO YOUR CLASSES: ACM meeting on April 10

The GSU chapter of the ACM presents

Multiple Sequence Alignment on Cloud Platform

                          Dr. Ken D. Nguyen
                         Assistant Professor
                Department of Information Technology
                      Clayton State University

Multiple sequence alignment is an NP-C problem for optimal alignments; however, it is the fundamental operation in biological sequence analysis. This task becomes harder every day as more sequences are added to sequence databases. With current sequencing systems capable of sequencing up to 600 megabases of DNA per 10-hour run, there is an urgent need for a capable computing platform. We will discuss different deployments of multiple sequence alignment on a cloud platform.

About the Speaker: Dr. Nguyen's research interests include databases, algorithms, dynamic reconfigurable networks, Web programming, and bioinformatics. His computing career started in 1996 as an automation technician for Ciba Vision Corp. Since then, he has worked as a programmer and IT consultant for various companies. He was an instructor in GSU's Department of Computer Science from 2001 to 2009. His B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees were all earned at GSU, where he won the William M. Suttles Graduate Fellowship, the university's highest graduate student honor.
