Clarification regarding GSTEP

The following message was from the English department:
GSTEP is to test international students in their first semester who received a score lower than 100 on TOEFL/7.5 on IELTS to determine whether they would benefit from English support courses. The GSTEP has never been intended, and indeed is inappropriate, as a measure of English proficiency for GTA appointments.

The CS department does not require GSTEP results for GTA applications. Academic background is the main factor to be considered. But you may benefit from the recommended English courses after you take GSTEP.
