Some of you might be interested in attending this meeting today. Although the focus is PhD program stipends, they will also be talking about generally demanding more support and higher stipends for MA students:

Dear GSU union member,

It's no secret that the stipends graduate students receive from GSU are abysmal, with multiple programs paying students less than 60% of the salary needed to live comfortably in the Atlanta area. Due to recent inflations in gas, rent, and every other necessary commodity, many students are making enormous sacrifices in order to make ends meet.

In response to the growing disparity between what students are paid and what they need to be paid, the union is forming a graduate student coalition. We will be having our first meeting next Wednesday, 7/13 at 6pm over Zoom where we will establish a sense of common problems faced by all grad students, so that we can then work towards solving them.

Graduate students are critical employees of the university, and should be respected and valued as such. We must develop a broad coalition to have our concerns addressed by the administration and demand change that benefits all of us. Although the focus of the coalition is on graduate students, all union members are invited to attend the meeting. We look forward to starting this new chapter in the union and working towards a better future for everyone. Please feel free to respond to this email with any questions.

In solidarity,
Julia (graduate student in Astronomy) & Kei (graduate student in History)
