Dear graduate students,

As a reminder, there is a handy semester-by-semester checklist for you to follow in the PDF version of the graduate handbook to make sure you are staying on track. Here are some deadlines for this semester, broken down by how many semesters you have been in the program:



1st Semester students: take classes! And meet with faculty members to discuss research interest/ potential MA thesis/ capstone topics.



2nd Semester students: Choose thesis or capstone track

  *   October 12: (thesis) form thesis committee by this date
  *   (thesis) Work on IRB if applicable, begin preparation for thesis prospectus



3rd Semester students:

  *   Make sure you have a plan to satisfy the language/ skills course requirement if you have not already
  *   Thesis students work on prospectus planning with your advisor and committee
  *   Thesis students make a plan to begin research project if you have not already
  *   October 12: (capstone) submit form with chosen advisor if you have not already
  *   October 29: Tentative (thesis) prospectus due date (Finalized date TBA soon)
  *   Apply for graduation



4th Semester students:

  *   Thesis students complete your research project
  *   Write your thesis/ capstone!
  *   Check to make sure you have fulfilled all course requirements and non-course milestones
  *   October 12: Final deadline to submit non-course milestones (https://cas.gsu.edu/academics-admissions/required-milestones/)
  *   October 15: (thesis) Initial deadline to submit MA thesis format review
  *   October 12: first draft of thesis/ capstone to advisor
  *   November 26: (thesis) final deadline to submit embargo request (to have library not release thesis to the public)
  *   November 26: (thesis) recommended deadline for thesis defense
  *   December 8: Final deadline to submit thesis or non-thesis (capstone) approval form
